Nasser Al-Attiyah triumphs in the 39th edition of the Baja Spain Aragón, in a competition marked by toughness and dust. The Qatari driver proved his driving prowess by overcoming all the challenges the event presented.
The event, which had to be shortened by two days due to the national elections, consisted of a prologue and three stages. On Friday, the first day of competition, a 6.22km prologue took place in Gea de Albarracín, followed by a 180km section between Bañón and Celadas, on waterlogged terrain that tested all competitors.
Al-Attiyah, at the wheel of his impressive Toyota GR DKR Hilux, was only 21 seconds behind the leader, Brazilian Lucas Moraes. However, on the second day of the competition, the Qatari driver and his co-driver Mathieu Baumel made a spectacular comeback. Repeating the section from Bañón to Celadas, but this time on a 155 km route, and then doing the 171 km circuit from Ojos Negros to Gea de Albarracín, they managed to reach the first position.
With a total time of 6 hours, 18 minutes and 37.2 seconds, Nasser Al-Attiyah was crowned the fastest of the day, securing his sixth victory in Aragon. This victory was not an ordinary one, as during the emotional moment of celebration, Al-Attiyah announced that this would be his last victory with Toyota. It was the end of a successful six-year winning streak with the team.
This year’s edition was a record turnout, with Audi, Toyota and Ford all taking part, and bringing together the world’s best drivers in a high-level event. Nasser Al-Attiyah was undoubtedly one of the main protagonists of this event, leaving his mark on the history of this competition and demonstrating, once again, why he is considered one of the best off-road rally drivers in the world.
Now, all eyes will be on what the future holds for this talented driver as he prepares to take on new challenges in upcoming competitions.
