Nasser Al-Attiyah clinches his second consecutive 2023 Rally-Raid world title in a thrilling finish in Morocco. The Rallye du Maroc, which took place from 12-18 October, marked the final stop of this thrilling championship. None of his rivals could match Al-Attiyah’s impressive performance in this event, cementing his status as one of motorsport’s greats.

Being a two-time world champion is an achievement reserved for a select few, and Nasser Al-Attiyah joins the select group of motorsport legends. The Qatari has claimed his second consecutive Rally-Raid World Championship crown, thanks to a series of outstanding performances. His farewell to Toyota in the 2023 season comes in style, leaving an indelible mark on the sport’s history.

The year started strongly for Al-Attiyah as he won his fifth Touareg trophy in the Dakar Rally. Despite obstacles, such as Audi withdrawals threatening his lead and Sébastien Loeb’s accident, which put him several hours behind, Al-Attiyah managed to maintain his lead and took overall victory in the Saudi event. Although Frenchman Loeb broke records with consecutive stage wins, he was unable to overtake Al-Attiyah and secured the Qatari’s fifth overall victory in the Dakar Rally.

The world title was virtually sealed at the Morocco Rally, where Al-Attiyah dominated the 296-kilometre second stage starting and finishing in Zagora. On this crucial stage, he overtook Spain’s Carlos Sainz and France’s Sébastien Loeb to consolidate his position as the undisputed championship leader.

The victory in the Morocco Rally and a strong performance throughout the season have enabled Nasser Al-Attiyah to be crowned World Rally Raid Champion for the second time in a row. His name is once again inscribed in the history of this exciting sport, demonstrating his skill and prowess in the world’s most challenging competitions.
