Nasser Al-Attiyah is five-time Dakar winner
- Al-Attiyah overtakes Ari Vatamen to become the second driver with the most Dakars in history.
- He won his fifth Touareg, third with Toyota, after leading with a lead of one hour and twenty minutes over Loeb.
Nasser Al-Attiyah has been crowned champion of the Dakar 2023 and now has five trophies to his name, making him the second driver with the most victories in this tough motor racing event.
Al-Attiyah, once again crowned the dunes after demonstrating incredible driving skills, along with his inseparable partner, Sebastian Baumel, thus revalidating the title under the watchful eye of the Saudi desert in a 45th edition that faced the drivers in an arduous marathon stage, unexpected floods and torrential rains, making the Dakar Rally 2023 the toughest of the last decade.
The Qatari driver dominated the Dakar from the 3rd stage, where he overtook Carlos Sainz and together with the advantage gained in the first stages by setting fast times in his Toyota HiLux, Al-Attiyah completed the 8,500km test without leaving room for surprise and a margin of one hour and 20 minutes of distance with the second classified: Sebastien Loeb.
Al-Attityah, second driver with the most Dakars
Nasser Al-Attiyah, after winning his 5th Dakar title, becomes the second most successful driver in the history of the Dakar in the car category, breaking the tie with Ari Vatanen (4th title). Al-Attiyah trails only Stephane Peterhansel, commonly known as Monsieur Dakar, who has 8 Dakar titles in the car category (14 in total).
With this Dakar victory, the second in a row, Al-Attiyah now has one of the four major events in the FIA World Rally-Raid Championship, making him one of the favorites to be crowned World Rally-Raid Champion once again.
