Al-Attiyah wins his 17th Qatar Rally championship

  • The Qatari driver achieves his eighth victory in the competition with one of the most important races in the Middle East
  • Even driving a borrowed car, Nasser was crowned champion by a 16-minute margin

Qatari driver Nasser Al Attiyah has been crowned champion of the Qatar Baja 2023 after winning a thrilling race in his home country. The Qatar Baja is one of the most important off-road races in the Middle East, with more than 50 drivers from all over the world taking part. The competition, which took place in the Khor al-Adaid desert, consisted of several stages in which the drivers had to face difficult terrain and harsh desert conditions, but none of that managed to stop Nasser, who has managed to win in each of the five Qatar Bajas that have been held since 2004.

A Hilux on loan from Benediktas Vanagas

The short margin between the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenger and the Qatar Baja put Al Attiyah in a bind, who after suffering a bad accident in the last race, has not managed to have his usual Toyota Hilux repaired in time. Benediktas Vanagas, driver of Toyota Gazoo Racing Baltics, gave the driver his Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+.

An ever-growing list of achievements

Nasser has achieved his eighth victory in the Qatar Baja hand in hand with his inseparable co-driver Mathieu Baumel, demonstrating once again his driving skills and the potential of the couple. Undoubtedly, a great triumph for the Qatari driver and his Toyota team. The driver, who already had the victory of the previous series, the Saudi Baja, now aims to take the victory of the next round in July, the Italian Baja.
